Andrew Lloyd Webber: Some “Phantom” fans “crazy”

Andrew Lloyd Webber is perhaps best known for the “Phantom of the Opera,” which is celebrating its record 25th year on Broadway.

But on “CBS This Morning,” Webber said some of his repeat, avid fans are crazy.

Gayle King remarked, “Would it embarrass you to know that I have seen ‘Phantom’ nine times? Nine times. Every time I go to see it, I get something different. But I’m told I’m not alone. You have a lot of repeat customers that go see ‘Phantom.”

Webber replied, “There are a lot of people that are crazy, I think. … They change their name to Christine Daae (the female lead in the musical). … It’s a bit strange to me. The fans have been extraordinary. I’ve been very, very lucky.”

When asked by Charlie Rose if “Phantom” is his favorite, Webber said, “I think the truth is they’re all a bit like kids. Like your children. It really is hard to pick one.”
